Rev. Kurt Spond
Chaplain (LTC) Retired, and wife Mary
Kurt Spond serves as associate chaplain endorser for mPact Churches, which is a worldwide church network headquartered in Fayetteville, NC. Kurt is a native of Laconia, IN. He enlisted in 1985 and served four years in the 82nd Airborne Division as a radio operator with the 82nd Signal Battalion and the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. He completed his enlistment as a Sergeant to attend college, completing a degree at Asbury College in 1994.
After serving as a Facility Manager for Tyson Foods, Inc. for eight years, Kurt felt called to return to the Army after 9/11. He left his business career to pursue the chaplaincy, graduating from Asbury Theological Seminary and returning to active duty in October 2005.
As a chaplain he was honored to serve with the 101st Airborne Division, 7th Special Forces Group, US Special Operations Command, Joint Multi-National Readiness Command, Fort Belvoir Garrison Command, 25 Infantry Division, and US Forces Command Headquarters. He completed five combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and served as senior pastor of four chapel congregations. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with 25 years of service.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. He is also a recipient of the Honorable Order of Titus and is the Chaplain for the 101stAirborne Division Association.
Kurt holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Asbury College, a Masters of Theological Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary, and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. He and wife Mary have been married for 30 years and have three grown children and one grandchild.
